Mother's Day and Porch Time
Welcome to our Mother's Day Edition of Front Porch Appeal.
We salute Moms everywhere.
Thank you, dear moms, for all the love, work, joy, tears and time you give to your family each and every day.
It matters. All of your time and love and heart - they matter so very much.
My mom loved lilacs. And so lilacs always remind me of Mother's Day and my mom.
I remember many of the sacrifices my own mother made for me.
I remember her sitting up in a chair all night while I lay sick on the sofa...even though she worked full time and went on little sleep.
I remember when she worked the night shift and got ready to head out the door at around 10 pm.
Oh, how hard that must have been with five children.
She smocked dresses for me, she listened to me, stood up for me and worried for me.
Moms work hard and give of their whole selves so that we can have a better life.
Thank you, Moms. You matter very much.
If you're a mom or celebrating a mom in your life, the opportunity to spend time with each other is the best gift of all.
And what better place to spend time together than on the porch?
On the porch swing, reading a good book, chatting with one another, playing games together.
Time spent together on the porch is a recipe for a wonderful Mother's Day!
I don't think we would ever regret spending time with our moms or those who care and love us as a mom.
It's truly the best gift of all.

Welcome to Sandy and Mel's Screened Porch
Sandy and Mel's wonderful back porch
Our neighbors and friends, Sandy and Mel, invited us to their back porch.
Their backyard retreat overlooks a peaceful wooded area where deer and turkey regularly visit.
What a quiet and serene screened porch they have with a view of their lush backyard and a backdrop of shag bark hickory trees, pines and other flora.
Their screened porch is spacious enough for two sitting areas: a place for reading, conversation, listening to music AND a cheerful dining area.
This year they added new rugs that bring a splash of color and fun to their porch.

She found two matching rugs, one that is round, perfect for their outdoor dining table and the other is rectangular for their cozy conversation area.
How often does that happen that you can find two rugs in just the size and shape that you like?

Porch ceilings can have the WOW factor!
Your porch ceiling need not be ho-hum. Not at all.
Some of the prettiest porches have interesting, beautifully designed porch ceilings that add a layer of beauty.
In fact, one of the ways that our own porch ceiling adds interest is because it is painted blue, haint blue.
Out and About
Gorgeous clump of irises we saw on our walk
Dave and I live near a lake and we often take a walk down a country road to visit the lake.
Walking down the shady lane, we get to enjoy many lovely trees and flowers.
Don't you love these tall bearded irises?
Our front porch this spring
We often get complements on the red autumn sage that graces our front porch garden.
This is a perennial plant that blooms from spring through fall.
Hummingbirds love it because of the many delicate red flower spikes.
We appreciate how it frames the entry to our porch and re-blooms from spring through autumn.
