Celebrate July 4th on the Porch!

Issue #103 June 2019

It's time for fireworks, sparklers and watermelon slices! Do you have good memories from your childhood summers? We sure do and one of those is eating ice cream on the porch.

I remember our neighbors would make homemade ice cream on their back patio for the families on our end of the block. My mom would make the delicious fudge topping to go on it and that was pure joy.

As kids, we would decorate our bikes with colorful streamers and baseball cards clipped to our spokes with clothespins. Oh, the simple things are the best things. We hope you have great memories to savor too.

Patriotic popcicles look so good in the summertime

As we write this newsletter, it's the first few days of summer 2019. The beginning of frolic and fun in the sun.

Our grandchildren here in Tennessee have already enjoyed a month of their summer vacation. Our grandchildren in Virginia just began their summer break. It's funny how school calendars vary so much from state to state.

Patriotic flag and constitution

And in this issue we celebrate the 4th of July in the USA. Celebrating our freedoms and blessings in this wonderful land of the United States of America. Time for picnics and baseball games and splashing in the sprinkler.

Celebrating fathers everywhere

We recently celebrated Father's Day and wish to send out a bunch of love to all the dads who are here. Thank you for being a bright light in your family's journey. We thank you, Dads, for all that you do in this world.

Check Out This Porch Swing Bed

Swing beds have become quite popular and this one from our friends and sponsor at The Porch Company is the ultimate in comfort. They have ingeniously solved the problem of the bed swing by making the back adjustable - perfect for a relaxing summer nap or for sitting and swinging the day away.

Sliding Screen Door Issues Solved!

Our sponsor, PCA Products, has designed and constructed a sliding screen door that will blow you away. We've never had a sliding screen door that we didn't have to fix; they can be a real pain. No more!

PCA Products has found a way to solve sliding screen door issues like bent frames, screen blow out, and derailing from the track. We hope you check them out and treat yourself to something wonderful in sliding patio doors.

A Half Umbrella is Sometimes What You Need

We have a side deck that is perfect for morning coffee, but it receives sun in the afternoon and early evening. It isn't wide enough for a full umbrella so we opted for a half umbrella. We use it over our seating area and move it over the grill when needed.

If you have a similar problem this may be the solution. We use our half umbrella often to extend our outdoor time in comfort.

We even made an umbrella holder to maximize our space or you can purchase one along with the umbrella.

A Most Popular Porch and Deck Option

If you need to replace your porch railings or perhaps are building or replacing a deck, check out these porch railing systems. Not only are they easy to install, but also can add a more updated appeal to your structure.

If You're a Bit Like Us...

We continue to be encouraged that a number of our readers purchase DIY handrails like the one shown here. Don't be fooled that you can't get hurt falling down only a step or two. Our porch has three steps and yes, we have a porch handrail that helps tremendously.

You may only have one, two, or three steps onto your porch, walkway, or garage and don't feel the need for a hand rail - but it only takes one stumble to fall. Anyone of any age can fall.

The good news is that installing a handrail is straightforward and holding onto one can prevent falls and broken bones.

Here's a simple DIY solution Mary and I recommend even if you have only a few unprotected steps. You can purchase them based on the number of steps you have.

Metal handrail kits make it easy to safe-proof you porch, deck, or stoop stairs. They look attractive too.

Remember, it's the small things that get us sometimes.

Our thanks once again to Jefferson Ross for sharing his porch with us

The little moments. They are the ones we will cherish all our lives. Those little magic moments where we have good conversations with friends and family on our porches.

Savor the days where life is good - recognizing the small things that make each day worthwhile. The sunshine. The flowers. The butterflies and the beautiful marshmallow clouds in the sky.

Embrace and cherish your friends, the good people in your life. We wish you many blessings and thank you for being an important part of our porch family here.

We value our sponsors and the products and services they provide. They are like family to us!
