Thankful In So Many Ways Issue #83 November 2016
November - the month for giving thanks for our veterans and for our many blessings.
When we speak of blessings, we all have so very much to be thankful for.
Even on off days, if we just look around us, we have much to be grateful for - from the air we breathe, to the birds singing to the humblest of porches we might have.
Our hearts can be lifted by giving attention to simple blessings in our everyday lives.
We are grateful for each of you.

November is also the month of great food and family gatherings and the perfect time to enjoy time outdoors and hopefully
time to relax on your porch even if it means bundling up and taking a hot cup of cocoa with you.
Veterans Day Tribute
At any given moment there are thousands of military personnel serving here and abroad who have pledged to give their all for something greater than themselves.
And among us are thousands of veterans: co-workers, friends, family members, your child's bus driver, first responders, teachers, and acquaintances who did the same.

Military Members and Their Families
November 11th is a special day for us as we've had a long family history of serving in the Armed Forces.
Mary and I salute all the military veterans and their families - we wouldn't be free without you.
Pictured here is Dave's Dad, Wayne (from when he served during WWII), our son Tom (who currently serves in the USAF) and Dave (who served for 20 years in the USAF).
And this year our oldest grandson, Cameron, has joined the ROTC program at his high school. We are super proud of him too.
We make it easy to recognize someone you know who is a military veteran.
Perhaps it is a family member, friend, or co-worker.
They would appreciate your thoughtfulness on November 11th.
Download and print out this free Veteran's Day card.
Write your own personal message and mail it.
Someone will truly appreciate your kindness.
Which Porch Calendar Do You Like Most?
Every year Dave and I would get a porch calendar, but they were ho-hum. Some of the months didn't even have porches.
So we decided to create our own. And not only did we create this charming front porch calendar, but we also coordinated this lovely screened porch calendar.
When you see and feel the quality of the calendars, you'll be proud to give them as gifts.
Even if you hadn't planned on getting your calendars yet, we thought you'd like to see this as a gift idea.
Both can be found in our Front Porch Ideas Zazzle Store and almost any day of the week you can get a nice discount at their site.
Front Porch Parade: This is a beautiful 12-month front porch calendar; the porches in our calendar belong to homeowners who are porch lovers like you.
You will sense their pride (and maybe a bit of porch envy too) when you turn the pages.
Screened Porch Bliss: A calendar of lovingly designed and beautifully built screen porches by our sponsor, The Porch Company in Nashville, TN.
Each month you will want to put your feet up on these screened porches and read a great book.
We Can't Believe It's November Already Either
It's the perfect month to decorate and really enjoy your porch before the upcoming madness begins.
Of course, we know many of you have cooler temperatures than we do in TN.
Mary and I enjoy November with great food and family and porches decorated for fall.
Decorating your porch this season and to welcome your Thanksgiving guests can be fun and easy to do - we have some nice ideas to share.
Create a welcoming entrance
Add autumn colors along with traditional pumpkins and gourds (and perhaps a cornstalk or two) to create a most welcoming
front porch.
Create an elegant fall front porch for Thanksgiving
Mary and I love the old fashioned red mailbox that seems to tie everything together.
It's a decorative porch item that can be used year round.
See our autumn wreath section for fall wreath ideas and access to tutorials for making one yourself!
Make Our Fun Turkey DIY Project
We show you how to make this adorable old fashioned turkey you could use indoors or out - kids will enjoy helping.

Don't Look Now
Christmas is next month!
Although Christmas and the holiday season are several weeks away, we know many of you like to discover new ideas for your porch and yard.
Mary and I thought we'd get you started thinking about your outdoor lighting projects.
Lots of folks like to hang their Christmas or holiday lights before it gets too cold. We can help.
